Guidelines for Entries
Thank you for contributing to FlyNome. It is important you read and understand these guidelines as they address our standards for submissions. These guidelines describe the proper kinds of conduct and prohibited uses of FlyNome. These guidelines are not exhaustive. We reserve the right to modify these guidelines at any time, effective upon posting.
By accessing FlyNome and using our service, you agree to abide by these guidelines as modified from time to time. Any violation of these guidelines could result in the suspension or termination of your account or such other action as we deem appropriate. If you want to report any violations of these guidelines, please send an e-mail to the curator.
1. Your General Responsibilities
As a passive conduit, our service enables people to share information about Drosophila nomenclature. We cannot and do not warrant, verify, or guarantee the quality, accuracy, or integrity of information that you may access. You understand you shall remain solely liable for any and all information, text, images, photographs, graphics, e-mail addresses, Web pages, reviews, discussion board postings, and other materials ("Content") that you upload, download, or transmit to our service.
2. Prohibited Content or Activities
Our service may be used only for lawful purposes. We reserve the right to restrict or remove any and all uses or Content that we determine in our sole discretion is harmful to our systems, network, reputation, or goodwill, to other FlyNome users, or to any third party. The following non-exhaustive list details the kinds of conduct or Content that is prohibited:
- The upload, download, or transmission of any Content that would violate, or would facilitate the violation of, any applicable law, regulation, or FlyNome rule or policy
- The upload, download, or transmission of any Content that infringes the intellectual property rights or other proprietary rights of others, including, without limitation, copyright, trademark, patent, or trade secrets
- The upload, download, or transmission of any Content that is unlawful, libelous, defamatory, obscene, pornographic, indecent, lewd, harassing, threatening, harmful, invasive of privacy or publicity rights, abusive, inflammatory, or otherwise objectionable
- The upload, download, or transmission of any harmful Content, including, without limitation, viruses, Trojan horses, worms, time bombs, cancelbots, or any other computer programming routines that may damage, interfere with, surreptitiously intercept, or expropriate any system, program, data, or personal information
- The upload, download, or transmission of any Content offering or disseminating fraudulent goods, services, schemes, or promotions (e.g., make-money-fast schemes, chain letters, pyramid schemes)
- The use of the service for commercial purposes such as advertising, promotion, or solicitation
- The impersonation of any person or entity or forging of any e-mail communication or any part of a message
3. Use of Content and Conflict Resolution
- Contributions will be sorted by date posted, so your contribution is likely to shift position accordingly.
- Generally, we do not screen any of the information ("Content") you upload as your contribution, but it is expected to reflect our community standards. We may remove your Content if, in our sole discretion, it does not meet our standards. When we do, you may receive a warning about the violation of FlyNome's standards. We may remove or alter your Content or its position on a page.
- FlyNome reserves the right to immediately terminate or suspend access for violations of our Guidelines.
- FlyNome also reserves our right to amend or change the Guidelines at any time without notice. You agree to periodically review this document to ensure you are doing your part.
- FlyNome is not obligated to send users or hosts a warning before deleting any Content.
- In the event of conflicting or incorrect information, FlyNome may edit or delete Content. Potential errors should be brought to our attention via email. We will make all reasonable efforts to correct, modify or delete Content that the Curator determines is incorrect.
- FlyNome reserves the right to edit Content for spelling, grammar and clarity.
- The FlyNome Curator has final authority over the inclusion, placement and editing of any and all Content.

Use of email addresses
We require your valid email address in order for you to make contributions to FlyNome. Your confirmation of the email address used to register constitutes acceptance of these policies and guidelines. We require your email address for two primary reasons: 1) to provide some level of accountability for the Content you contribute, and 2) to enable us to communicate with you in the event of a question or conflict regarding the Content you contribute. During the registration process, you can choose to keep your email address from being displayed with the entries you contribute.

Use of Cookies
FlyNome uses "cookies" to help you personalize your online experience. A cookie is a text file that is placed on your hard disk by a Web page server. Cookies cannot be used to run programs or deliver viruses to your computer. Cookies are uniquely assigned to you, and can only be read by a web server in the domain that issued the cookie to you.
One of the primary purposes of cookies is to provide a convenience feature to save you time. The purpose of a cookie is to tell the Web server that you have returned to a specific page. For example, if you register with FlyNome, a cookie helps us to recall your specific information on subsequent visits. Additionally, cookies are used to confirm your identity when making an entry.
You have the ability to accept or decline cookies. Most Web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually modify your browser settings to decline cookies if you prefer. If you choose to decline cookies, you may not be able to contribute entries to the FlyNome database.

Privacy Policies
Policy 1. We will explicitly ask you when we need information that personally identifies you or allows us to contact you ("Personal Information"). Generally, Personal Information is requested when you register at FlyNome or when you contribute an entry.
Policy 2. Your email address will not be added to any mailing lists or sold/given to any third parties. You may receive emails from FlyNome regarding specific entries you make or in the event of major changes in FlyNome's content and/or it's policies.
Policy 3. We may disclose Personal Information if required to do so by law or in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary to (a) conform to the edicts of the law or comply with legal process served on us or our affiliates; (b) protect and defend our rights or property or those of our users, and (c) act as immediately necessary in order to protect the personal safety of our users or the public.
Policy 4. If at any time you believe we have violated these Policies, please notify us by email and we will use all reasonable efforts to promptly investigate and remedy the problem.

Copyright for individual entries is distinct from the copyright of FlyNome as a whole and vests with the author of the contribution. Contribution of an entry constitutes permission for FlyNome to reproduce and distribute said entry according to the guidelines outlined in this document.
Information from Flynome may be copied for non-commercial uses by individuals and organizations. Any commercial use of this information, or any parts thereof, is expressly prohibited without permission in writing from the FlyNome Curator.
FlyNome makes no warranty of any kind with respect to the subject matter included herein. FlyNome specifically disclaims all warranties, expressed, implied or otherwise, including without limitation, all warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
FlyNome makes no warranty of any kind with respect to websites, pages and links external to FlyNome.
The information contained in this publication is subject to change without notice.
By viewing or using this information the user agrees that in no event shall FlyNome be liable for any special, incidental, indirect, or consequential damages of any kind, or any damages whatsoever, whether or not advised of the possibility of damage, arising out of or in connection with the use or performance of this information.
